April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and piano lessons, sparking her passion for writing songs. April Lockhart wrote her first song, Different at the age 12 years old. When she was 14 years old, April was spending a lot of time writing lyrics and perfecting her musical skills. Soon after, April started to travel with her dad as well as write her songs either in NY as well as LA. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My Hand for the people in her life who are struggling with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is also gaining a growing fan base as a lifestyle blogger and is employed by the renowned clean beauty company Ilia. She was born without a left hand and that creates her unique. It's not the only characteristic of her. Lockhart's Twitter profile does not shy away from the fact that she is disabled however, it doesn't make a point of it. What message is it sending? The message is that we all share numerous identities. We're much way more diverse than we think that we're. Lockhart through a video message from Nashville home, says that I do not want this to define myself. I'm much more than my physical self. It doesn't impact my daily life. I continue to do my normal activities and have adapted to the limitations of my disability. This is also part of my personality, and it should be discussed. Her journey to self-acceptance will be one that lasts a lifetime, but she can be a role model with regard to this. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of insecurity with her body and feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types that exposed her arms. She dresses according to her preferences and proudly posts pictures of herself in the outfits she chooses on social platforms. Self-love she said is a kind of journey. "I don't think you'll ever get in that place," she said. The same is true for everybody, no matter what their level of insecurity. The people around you with who truly know you, and can see into your heart are the best people to remind you of what you're worrying about.
